£30,000 Compensation Awarded To Nurse When Hit Head On

A 48 year old Staff Nurse from Clitheroe was injured whilst travelling in her Mazda M-X5 on Waddington Fell.  She had just passed the Moorcock Inn when she was suddenly confronted by a Fiat Skudo van driving at speed towards her on the wrong side of the road.  She had no opportunity to avoid a collision and the vehicles collided head on.  Her feet were stuck under the peddles of her car and she had to be extracted from the vehicle by the fire brigade.  She was then transported to hospital by a helicopter.

She was found to be suffering from a number of injuries including a broken toe on her left foot, a fractured collar bone, severe bruising to her feet, chest, abdomen, hip and face together with various cuts.  She also suffered from severe shock and distress.

She approached John Bennett who took the case on a ‘No Win No Fee’ basis. He obtained an admission of liability and referred his client to a medical expert who estimated that it would take up to 18 months before she recovered both physically and mentally.  On this basis he successfully secured his client £30,000 in compensation.  The van driver was later found guilty of driving with no insurance or MOT and had been driving at over 80mph at the time of the crash.
